The 2026-27 ski season is getting close, and three major western resorts already have opening dates on the calendar. Breckenridge is scheduled to start on November 6, Big Sky follows on November 25, and Aspen Mountain is projected to open on November 26. Each resort has a different opening pattern, and the market-price snapshots in this draft suggest different levels of confidence around early, normal, and delayed starts.

The useful comparison is between official schedules, opening history, and the prices shown in the snapshots. Breckenridge usually starts much earlier than Aspen or Big Sky, while the other two are centered closer to Thanksgiving. The visuals below show how the 2026 dates compare with those patterns.

The screenshots are snapshots, not live quotes. The percentages below are approximate probabilities implied by the displayed YES prices, not independent weather forecasts. Prices can change, and fees, spreads, and each contract's settlement rules matter.

Breckenridge: November 6

Breckenridge lists November 6 as its opening day for the 2026-27 season. That makes it the earliest of the three resorts by nearly three weeks. In the supplied 2016-2025 opening-day history, Breckenridge's recent openings are concentrated mainly from roughly November 7 through November 13, with one later season around November 19. A November 6 start sits slightly earlier than that cluster, but still close to the resort's normal early-November window.

The market-price snapshot reflects that early schedule. It implies about a 4% probability of opening before November 1, rising sharply to about 83% before November 8 and 98% before November 15. In that snapshot, the prices lean heavily toward an opening in the first half of November, rather than a substantial delay into the second half of the month.

Big Sky: November 25

Big Sky Resort lists November 25 as the start of its 2026-27 winter season. Historically, that date is right in the middle. The supplied record includes 53 completed seasons dating back to 1973, with a first quartile of November 23, a median of November 25, and a third quartile of November 27. That puts the middle 50% of Big Sky opening dates within a five-day window around Thanksgiving.

The historical chart also shows one obvious exception: Big Sky's inaugural season opened on December 15, 1973. Outside of that first-year outlier, the plotted opening dates are packed tightly between November 22 and November 28. Based on the chart, 52 of the 53 completed seasons opened before November 29. The resort's scheduled November 25 opening for 2026 therefore lands exactly on its historical median.

The 2026 market-price snapshot tells a similar story. It implies about a 3% probability of opening before November 15 and 8% before November 22, then jumps to about 94% before November 29. The implied probability reaches about 99% by December 6. The biggest change falls within the week surrounding the scheduled November 25 opening.

Aspen Mountain: November 26

Aspen Snowmass projects Aspen Mountain to open on November 26. Like Big Sky, Aspen's recent opening history is centered in late November rather than early in the month. In the supplied 2016-2025 comparison, Aspen Mountain's opening dates extend from roughly November 19 to November 27, with most of the observations clustered in the November 22-26 range. The scheduled November 26 opening sits toward the later side of that recent distribution, but still well inside it.

Aspen also has a wider implied opening window than Breckenridge in the supplied snapshots. Its displayed prices imply about an 11% probability of opening before November 15 and 19% before November 22. That rises sharply to about 89% before November 29, 96% before December 6, and 98% before December 13. The steepest increase falls around Thanksgiving, matching both the official November 26 schedule and Aspen's recent opening history.

How the Recent History Compares

The historical charts make the contrast easy to see. Breckenridge's opening window is much earlier, while Aspen Mountain's is concentrated later in November. Their scheduled 2026 dates follow that pattern. Big Sky is scheduled just one day before Aspen, but its longer historical record adds context: November 25 is also its exact historical median.

Conclusion: Three Different Opening Windows

The three resorts enter the 2026-27 season with clearly different opening profiles. Breckenridge is scheduled for November 6 and has the earliest opening window. Big Sky is scheduled for November 25, exactly matching its long-run median, while Aspen Mountain follows on November 26 within its recent late-November range. Weather and mountain conditions can still move any scheduled date, but the current calendars and historical distributions point to Breckenridge first, followed by Big Sky and Aspen around Thanksgiving.
